Sixth Street Economic Revitalization Program
Are you looking to improve your business or property?
Here is your opportunity to take advantage of the following incentives offered by the Redevelopment Agency.
- Design Assistance
- Forgivable Loans
These incentives are available to property owners, business owners, and non-profits on Sixth Street and the main arteries in the South of Market Project Area. Assistance is available for facade and tenant improvements for buildings with retail space. Highest priority will be given to properties and businesses on Sixth Street. Next priority will be given to those within the Project Area, which are in the greatest state of disrepair.
Design assistance consists of free creative and architectural services for redesigning the interior and/or exterior of retail space. Design drawings and blueprints are provided for new signs, awnings, painting and construction projects.
Building improvements
The Sixth Street Economic Revitalization Program offers matching grants and free architectural services to Sixth Street property and business owners to improve the facades and interiors of their buildings. Urban Solutions provides hands-on coordination to expedite S.E.R.P. project completion. Architectural services are provided through a contract with Asian Neighborhood Design (AND).
Streetscape Improvements
Major street improvements took place in 2006, funded by the Redevelopment Agency and the Department of Public Works. Urban Solutions worked with property owners and contractors to ensure the sub-sidewalk areas of Sixth Street property basements were abandoned or reinforced, so these improvements could take place. Sidewalk and street enhancements included reconstruction and repair of sidewalks, sewer & water main upgrades, installation of new lighting and sidewalk bump-outs at main intersections to improve pedestrian safety. Trees have been planted along the Sixth Street corridor and palm trees sited at the Sixth Street intersections at Howard and Mission Streets.
