In 1992, the South of Market Foundation was formed in response to a lack of accountability in the economic development of the area and the community's need for increased small business resources and services. Comprised of South of Market neighborhood merchants, residents and grassroots community-based groups, the resulting economic development corporation changed its name to Urban Solutions in 2002 to reflect the expanded scope and updated initiatives of the organization.

Building on the success of our South of Market office, Urban Solutions opened a second office in the Fillmore in 2004, establishing a much-needed presence in the neighborhood. Serving as a liaison between business owners and lenders, Urban Solutions quickly became an important source for technical assistance and other small business services.
