Urban Solutions is looking for a highly motivated, personable and responsible individual to assist with client data collection. The primary responsibility of the Data and Outreach Intern will be to assist Urban Solutions with the collection of client outcomes data using data collection protocols. We will train you on how to interact and survey our entrepreneurs and small business owners about their experiences with Urban Solutions and the financial health of their businesses and their families.
This position is unpaid. Transportation costs related to intern activities will be reimbursed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the small business programs implemented at Urban Solutions.
- Assist in pre-interview activities, including preparing contact information, sending postcards to clients, and consolidating client intake data.
- Participate in data collection activities, primarily by conducting client interviews over the phone and entering interview data. Training will be provided.
- Assist in client follow-up and data cleaning to ensure quality and completeness of client responses.
- Assist in preliminary data analysis and report development.
- Secure job descriptions/job creation/job retention forms from clients.
- Canvas SOMA, Central Market and Western Addition neighborhoods and recruit potential clients or participants in programs, workshops and events.
- Opportunities to participate in other projects at Urban Solutions as the organization’s needs and intern’s interest dictates.
Knowledge, Education and Experience
- Current undergraduate student, preferably entering their junior or senior year, or graduate student with demonstrated experience or coursework in research methods.
- Outstanding communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills; outgoing with a friendly manner on the phone.
- Personable with sensitivity in working with people of different cultural backgrounds. Prior experience working with diverse and low-income populations is a plus.
- Highly organized with superior attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and with Internet research.
- Interest in economic development and small business.
- Availability to do some work on evenings or weekends if necessary.
